Along with 'Special Place', the song 'Two Friends Drinking' provides a lighter moment of the record. Essentially, it is a drinking song.

The reference to 'downing Black Arthur' is another way of saying 'drinking a pint of Guinness'. It was Irishman Arthur Guinness who founded the famous Guinness brewery. The coded term 'Black Arthur' is derived from the colour of the drink and also the name of the founder.

The song is notable for the soaring backing harmonies of Steve Lennox and an excitable exclamation of 'alright!' by Tristan Newsome at the end of the bridge. Alright!
